Pingree School

5/11/2009 - Berwick Academy 5 v. Pingree 6

BA loses a Heartbreaker
On Blue and White Weekend, the Bulldogs of Berwick hosted their traditional rivals, the Highlanders of Pingree. It was a great day filled with spirited competition, perfect weather, and a strong sense of school spirit and pride. Going into the game, Berwick had boasted an undefeated home record, a source of pride and inspiration for the boys.

Pingree started the game strong, and they jumped out to a quick two goal lead. However, after a Berwick time out, and an impassioned speech by Head Coach Rob Quinn, the Bulldogs buckled down and battled back. Both teams traded goals and by half-time the score was even at three buckets a piece.

In the second half, the play and pace of the game was up tempo, passionate, and physical. It was clear that the game was going to be close and decided in the waning moments of the contest.

With three minutes left in the game, and the scored tied at 5-5, John Reinhardt threw a good, but hard check, on a Pingree defender, a flag was thrown, and Berwick was forced to play man down. Pingree possessed the ball well, ran the clock down, and was able to score the go ahead goal with a little over a minute left in the game.

Berwick, stunned but not phased, knew what they needed to do. Jordan Sanford won the face-off, Aaron Harris came up with the ground, and the Bulldogs pushed the fast break. However, after tic-tac-toe precision passing the attack only found the sound of goal pipe instead of the back of the net. As a result, Pingree won the game, and the Bulldogs lost a heartbreaker of a contest.

Most importantly, the coaching staff was incredibly proud of the effort the boys exhibited and the heart in which they played with. Berwick is on the road this Monday where they hope to rebound from the weekend with a victory over Landmark
